Who Is Jesus? // Luke 9:10-17
Pastor Liz Tautolo
There is only one miracle (besides the resurrection) that is told in all four Gospels. That miracle is the feeding of the 5,000, which was the focus of our sermon as we continued in our Luke: Jesus for Everyone series. But why is this miracle key in each gospel writers’ depiction of Jesus?
As Liz Tautolo argued, it is key because it provides us a distilled image of who Jesus is. As Christians, we believe that Jesus is the image of an invisible God. In other words, if we want to know what God is like, we look to Jesus. Therefore, it matters a great deal to know what Jesus is like. And in the feeding of the 5,000, we see that Jesus is 1.) compassionate 2.) a community organizer and 3.) the Christ (God’s anointed savior). Jesus, like God, acts from a wellspring of love and compassion to call imperfect people like you and me to bring restoration and healing to a hurting creation. That is a God who is worthy of our complete trust and loyalty!
