Jesus Is What God Has To Say // Luke 9:28-36
Pastor Doug Glynn
What is God like, and how do we know? While there are many answers to these questions, the answer to both that Christians have affirmed for centuries is: Jesus. While on the surface this seems simple, it raises some important questions for Christians seeking to live “biblically.” What do we do when scripture seems to come into conflict with the Way of Christ?
The transfiguration story in Luke 9 answers this question in a remarkable way. In this story, a gloriously radiant Jesus is revealed to be not just a nice guy, not only a great teacher, and not simply a gifted healer, but the Son of God. And this happened in the presence of Moses and Elijah who, together, represent the Law and the Prophets (the Old Testament Scriptures). Thus, when God declares “This is my Son...listen to Him,” we should understand it to mean that Jesus is what God has to say. In other words, if we ever feel tension between being “biblical” and being a follower of Jesus, we would be wise to choose Jesus.
