“Fishing With Jesus”

Steve Reed| 07.17.2011

“Simon Peter announced, ‘I’m going fishing.’ The rest of them replied, ‘I’m going with you.’ They went out and got in the boat. They caught nothing that night. When the sun came up, Jesus was standing on the beach, but they didn’t recognize him. Jesus spoke to them, ‘Good morning, did you catch anything for breakfast?’ They answered, ‘No.’ He said, ‘Throw the net off the right side of the boat and see what happens.’ They did what he said. All of a sudden there were so many fish in it they were not strong enough to pull it in. Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Master!’” (John 21:2-7)

QUESTION: Are you in the boat, why or why not?

“After breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?’ ‘Yes, Master, you know I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my lambs.’ He then asked a second time, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me?’ ‘Yes, Master, you know I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Shepherd my sheep.’ And then he commanded, ‘Follow me.’” (John 21:15-16; 19)

QUESTION: Are you following, why or why not?

“He went on to open their understanding of the word of God...he said, ‘You can see now how it is written that the Messiah suffers, rises from the dead on the third day, and then the total life change through the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed in his name to all nations--starting from here--from Jerusalem! You’re the first to hear and see it. You’re the witnesses. What comes next is very important: I am sending what my Father promised to you, so stay here in the city until it arrives, until you’ve been equipped with power from on high.’” (Luke 24:45-49)

QUESTION: Do you have power in your life?
