Pastor Liz Tautolo’s sermon title “The Secret Place” also gives away the main idea. Namely, that we are all invited to join God in a place of intimacy, rest, and preparation. The idea comes from a common refrain found throughout the gospels, that Jesus himself would often steal away to a quiet place to be his Father. If Jesus needed that kind of intimacy with the Creator, how much more so for us!

Whether this Secret Place is a physical one, a mental space, or even simply acknowledging the presence of Christ in us, we experience the most joy, freedom, and life when we make this Secret Place the steering wheel of our life rather than the spare tire. As John Ortberg says, “The story of the Bible isn't primarily about the desire of people to be with God; it's the desire of God to be with people.” Thus, we fulfill the Lord’s deepest longing each and every time we step out of our busy lives to simply be with God.
