SUMMER CRUISIN’

“Crossing the Red Sea: Part I”

Pastor Duane Cross | 06.12.2011

“Then a new king, who did not know about Joseph, came to power in Egypt. ‘Look,’ he said to his people, ‘the Israelites have become much to numerous for us. Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous.’ So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor.....” (Exodus 1:8-11)

Question of the text: CAN I BE DELIVERED?

“That day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore.” (Exodus 14:30)

RED SEA CROSSROADS

I. THE PURSUIT OF THE ENEMY.

"As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord.” (Exodus 14:10)

“The Egyptians-all Pharoah’s horses and chariots, horsemen and troops-pursued the Israelites and overlook them as they camped by the sea near Pi Hahiroth, opposite Baal Zephon.” (Exodus 14:9)

II. THE POWER OF GOD TO MAKE A WAY.

“Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.’” (Exodus 14:13-14)

III. THE RESPONSIBILITY OF GOD’S PEOPLE TO MOVE FORWARD.

“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.’” (Exodus 14:15)

GO BEYOND GETTING OUT OF EGYPT TO GETTING EGYPT OUT OF YOU

"For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. Now these things occurred as examples, to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.”

(I Corinthians 10:1-6)
