Opening Our Eyes To Jesus (Emmaus Road) // Luke: Jesus For Everyone // Luke 24:13-35 // Doug Glynn // 04.12.26

As we continue our journey from the cross we join followers of Jesus as they struggle with the reality of Jesus' death and the possibility of His resurrection. Jesus appears alongside His followers as they are discussing the deep sadness they feel at having lost the one they hoped would bring salvation, their hearts are burdened and heavy and disguised, Jesus begins to reiterate the Good News through a full on study of the law and prophets. When Jesus goes to break bread with them he reveals himself and disappears, leaving those followers to realize that they had been in the midst of Jesus that whole time.

Doug connects the experience of these followers to the ways in which lives full of distractions and burdens such as worry, anxiety, and anger cloud our ability to hear and see the Holy Spirit working with us. Similarly to Elijah in 1 Kings 19:11-13, we must still ourselves and listen to the still, small voice of God who is alive and with us.

How do we do this? Try setting time aside before the distractions of the day set in, or spend time in the word and with people who display the character of God to get to know what that still, small voice may sound like.
