Resurrection: Nonsense Until it Made Sense // Easter // Luke 24:1-12 // 04.05.26 // Doug Glynn

This Easter we explore the resurrection through the eyes of the women who spread the good news to the apostles. As they encounter the empty tomb and begin to wonder what has happened, angels appear and ask them,“Why do you look for the living among the dead?"(Luke 24:5b). They are confused and ran to the apostles in hiding to tell them about the resurrection, but it sounded like "nonsense"(Luke 24:11) because they had heard of the way Jesus had been killed, they had witnessed and grieved and fled. 

Within our lives we seek life from things that were never designed to give us life and perhaps the angels question applies to us as well, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?"(Luke 24:5b), why do we seek life where only the resurrection life of Jesus can provide it? Even the disciples, who Jesus had told about His resurrection, were confused. until they remembered, and when they began to remember Jesus, the true Jesus and all of His teachings, they realized that death couldn't be the end of the story. Perhaps we need to remember, or perhaps we need to wonder for the first time about the presence of the resurrection life of Jesus within the despair and brokeness of our lives.
