Lost Sons: The Crossroads of Pain // Luke: Jesus For Everyone // Luke 15:11-19 // Doug Glynn // 09.28.25
This week we step into one of Jesus’ most beloved parables in Luke 15, the story of the Prodigal Son. But as Doug reminds us, it’s not just about one son. Both sons are lost in their own ways, and both are deeply loved by their father. The younger son wounds his father by asking for his inheritance as if he were already dead, then runs off to waste it all on wild living. Eventually, he comes to the end of himself, hungry, hurting, and faced with a choice: keep running from pain or turn and face it.
We, too, come to those crossroads in our lives. We can try to avoid the pain or we can bring it into the light. And here is the Good News: we have a Father who loves us enough to let us choose, yet longs even more to welcome us home. His love doesn’t condemn our return; it invites us back and celebrates our return as we live into the light of confession, repentance, and community.
