Preacher: Doug Glynn Series: Invitation to Sabbath Scripture: Genesis 1:31, Genesis 2:2–3, Matthew 12:1–12

Delight// Invitation to Sabbath // Genesis 1:31, Genesis 2:2-3. Matthew 12:1-12// Doug Glynn //05.11.25

In the third part of our ‘Invitation to Sabbath,’ we focus on DELIGHT - the part that makes Sabbath, ‘the best part of the week!’ Starting in Genesis 1, we see that as God looks at His work, God declares it TOV (Hebrew for ‘good, beautiful, whole!’). And upon completing creation, God’s first rest wasn’t about being tired - it was about being satisfied! It was about delight, and God has invited us into that delight. Through the practice of Sabbath in its wholeness we experience not just a day off, but one where our eyes are opened to God’s joy through creation (both nature and humanity as the image of God).

Oftentimes what can get in the way of us experiencing this delight is our own understanding of who God is. When our view is obscured by legalism or a brooding angry vision of God, we are unable to see how the true nature of God is one that radiates joy & goodness! As we draw near to God, we draw near to all that our hearts are aching for: full delight. As we practice sabbath we can experience DELIGHT through things like: gathering together, playing, intentional gratitude, and so much more.
