Through the Eyes of Pontius Pilate // The Cross Through The Eyes of... (LENT 2025) // Mark 14:61-65, John 18:19-19:22, // Doug Glynn // 03.30.25

March 30, 2025 Speaker: Doug Glynn Series: The Cross Through the Eyes of....

Topic: Lent Verse: Mark 14:61–65, John 18:18– 19:22

This week we look at the cross through Pontius Pilate’s eyes and the weighty, profound question that he asked Jesus: “Are you a King?” This reveals the clash between these two kingdoms, and Jesus's unconventional kingship, one that prioritizes love and sacrifice over force and domination; His power is demonstrated through His willingness to suffer and die on the cross.

Pilate sent Jesus to be crucified and chose power and control over the king he saw bloody and bruised in front of him. In our lives, we are faced with lots of competing ‘kings’ and ‘kingdoms’ asking for us to give over our allegiance. So, we are asked to reflect on Jesus's kingship. Do we choose to acknowledge a suffering and loving king as ours? Even when it doesn’t line up with how we think the world should be?
