What is God like? One popular conception of God is as an angry judge, sitting in condemnation over his creation and ready to punish us eternally if not for his Son, Jesus. While this view is prevalent, we ask an important question: is it true?

If, as Colossians 1 and John 14 make clear, God is most clearly seen in Jesus, then this popular image of God quickly becomes problematic, because it simply does not resonate with the words or deeds of Jesus. Instead, scripture, through the ministry and teachings of Jesus, reveals God as being most revealed in the strength and tenderness of love.
