Taking a Stand for Women // Luke 10:38-42
The state of affairs when it comes to the “acceptable role” of women in the church is a mess. And what is truly heartbreaking is, women end up bearing the emotional burden of the church’s lack of clarity. But, for as divisive as it seems to be in the Western church today, Jesus seemed to have been radically liberative when it came to women’s place in his Kingdom work.
Jesus welcomed women, like Mary, as disciples. Luke wrote of women taking on roles of authority in the early church. And even Paul seems to have appointed women as leaders and missionaries within his own ministry. The New Testament authors took a stand in their time, and now, 2,000 years later, we are invited to take a stand for the voice of women within the church because, as Genesis 1 makes clear, it takes both men and women serving together to fully reflect the image of God.
