To choose sin, to choose to ‘live in a distant country’ is to say to the Father, “I wish to live as if you were dead, as if you had no claim on me or my life.”
God is all-powerful, but He makes Himself vulnerable to us. He wants relationship, not just compliance.
In his pain Jesus says, “he came to his senses.”
He plans to go home as a hired servant. But as a hired servant, he will not know the intimacy of a son with a father. He’d be an employee, not a family member.
