“Get Relationally Fit”

Pastor Scott Oas | 01.10.16

“It is not good for man to be alone.” - Genesis 2:18 (NIV)

Why should I connect with others?
EMOTIONAL benefits
PHYSICAL benefits
SPIRITUAL benefits

“His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ.” - Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

4 Essential Components of Fellowship

1. Membership: CHOOSING TO BELONG.
“So now you... are no longer strangers and foreigners... You are members of God’s family.” - Ephesians 2:19 (NLT)

2. Friendship: LEARNING TO SHARE.
“All the believers met together constantly and shared everything with each other.” - Acts 2:44 (NLT)

3. Partnership: DOING MY PART.
“We work together as partners who belong to God.” - 1 Corinthians 3:9a (NLT)

4. Kinship: LOVING BELIEVERS LIKE FAMILY.
“We know what real love is because Christ gave up His life for us. And so we also ought to give up our lives for our Christian brothers and sisters.” - 1 John 3:16 (NLT)

GOING DEEPER

SCRIPTURE READING: Ephesians 1:3-5

GETTING STARTED

What’s one of your longest running friendship relationships?
What are the characteristics of healthy long-term relationships?

A CLOSER LOOK

Read Ephesians 4:1-6.
What character qualities do you see listed in these verses? How so these qualities help you focus on “we” instead of “me”?

Read Romans 12:3-10.
What do you learn about the variety of gifts in the Body of Christ in this passage?
Why are the gifts specifically noted?
What is revealed about one’s demeanor and the use of gifts?

Read verses 9 & 10.
What is significant about each of these words; “pretend”, “love”, “hate”, “hold”, “genuine”, “delight”, and “honoring”?

DIGGING DEEPER

Read Ephesians 4:20-29.
We all know the power of words- for better or worse! How would you rate your words? Do you spend more time as a “builder” or a “wrecking ball”?

v.29 When are you the most tempted to let “unwholesome talk” come out of your mouth?

Read Ephesians 5:1&2.
In your own words summarize what Paul is saying to us in these verses.
How has that level of sacrifice impacted your life?
