ON THE MOVE

“The Mission of God”

Pastor Brandon Hovey | 09.14.14 6

"Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:6-8)

The Mission of God

1. Designed for Good:

In the beginning the world was at peace. Humans had a loving and harmonious relationship with God and one another. (Genesis 1-2)

2. Damaged by Evil:

The first humans rebelled against their Creator, disobeyed the Word of God, and insisted in calling the shots. This led unleashed sin and brokenness into the world. (Genesis 3)

3. Restored for Better:

God loved his creation and men and women too much to have them in their sin and pain. So, shortly after the sin came on the scene, God launched a rescue plan to overcome sin, death, and evil. This plan began with Abraham and the nation of Israel and climaxed in Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension.

4. Sent on Mission:

After Jesus’ earthly ministry he sent his disciples to continue his work in the world. (John 20:21) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

Our mission in life is to be a “witness” for Jesus Christ.

What Does it Mean to Be Jesus’ Witness?

1. A witness is a Kingdom messenger.

2. A witness says and does.

3. A witness is self-powered and Spirit-led.

4. A witness puts it all on the line.
