What Is Christmas?

“Christmas is a Celebration”

Pastor Duane Cross | 12.15.2013

1. The First Purpose of Christmas is celebration!

“There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping wartch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.’” Luke 2:8-10 (NIV)

God loves you.

God is with you.

God is for you

“God did not send His Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it.” John 3:17 (NLT)

2. The Second Purpose of Christmas is salvation!

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born for you; He is Christ the Lord!” Luke 2:11 (NIV)

Saved from my sin.

“Give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 (NIV)

Saved for a purpose.

“He saved us and called us to be His own people, not because of what we have done, but because of His own purpose and grace.” 2 Timothy 1:9 (TEV)

Saved by God’s Grace.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from your selves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)

“Look, I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in...” Revelations 3:20 (NLT)
