“Lives with Integrity” (James 3:13-18)

Takeaway: People who are wise aren’t those who know more than others or do more good deeds than others. Although these are all important and valuable, the greatest single impact we can have with our lives are to live lives of integrity.

How do you define integrity? ______________________________________

3 types of integrity:

1. conditional integrity

example: King Saul (1 Samuel 13, 19, 22, 23, 28)

“Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8 (ESV)

2. confident integrity

example: Pharisees & teachers of the law (Matthew 23:25-28)

example who didn’t fail: David on the run from Saul (1 Samuel 24)

“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”

“Don’t be so naive and self-confident. You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence.”

3. consistent integrity

example: Job (Job 2:9, 27:5-6)

The value in a life of consistent integrity:

1. You can walk closely with God. (Psalm 15:1-2)

2. You’ll have a built-in guide. (Proverbs 11:3)

3. You’ll have a constant peace in your heart. (Psalm 34:14)

4. You’ll gain trust, respect, honor and influence. (1 Samuel 12)

5. You’ll be found wise. (James 3:13-18)

CLOSING QUESTIONS:

1. What is your integrity worth to you? For what are you willing to sacrifice your integrity?

2. If you were to be honest with yourself, which type of integrity do you have? What changes do you need to make in your life in order to maintain a life of consistent integrity?
