Donate time or blood!

As a former hopsital chaplain who worked in Trauma and Intensive Care, I know a lot about blood. And I've seen a lot of it too! I can't express how important it is that people donate blood regularly. There are ALWAYS people in need. Accident victims, the chronically ill, surgical patients: these are just a few of the people who must have donor blood to sustain or save their lives.

Did you know that donated blood is at its most useful within 14 days of donation? Or that it can't be stored for use forever no matter what TV and movies portray? But then there are usually so many people in need that there isn't a surplus of blood stored up. I've overheard ICU nurses many times say, "we ran out of blood; hopefully there is some at an outside blood bank." Those are scary statements when a life is hanging in the balance. (If you'd like to learn more about blood and donation, check out http://www.redcrossblood.org/learn-about-blood) We can be people that take part in saving lives here in Phoenix!

Feel compelled to help? The American Red Cross blood-mobile will be in our parking lot on Sunday October 7th from 8am to 1pm. If you would like to be help me recruit donors from our congregation, you'd like to donate blood, or you want to both recruit and donate (bonus points for you!), please contact me at corrie@hopechurchchandler.com.

Warmly,

Pastor Corrie
