Blessed! - New Sermon Series

NEW SERMON SERIES - BLESSED!

Everyone wants to be “blessed.”  But what does it mean to be blessed? Is it about being rich, sexually active, popular, funny, good-looking, or having a large family? Is the blessed life about a fun-filled Americanized “pursuit of happiness”? Or is real blessing something else entirely?

In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus sets the record straight—he tells us who the blessed are and what their lives look like. According to Jesus the blessed are those who have entered his upside-down kingdom. These Kingdom citizens’ lives are marked by radically countercultural priorities such as—spiritual humility, mourning, meekness, righteousness, mercy, purity, and persecution. It’s these women and men, according to Jesus, that experience the blessing and approval of the King of the universe. They receive the smile of God and the roaring applause of heaven. This is what it means to be blessed!

Over the next 9-weeks I invite you to live in this kingdom lifestyle of blessing as we explore Jesus’ eight wisdom sayings, known as the Beatitudes (see Matthew 5:1-12). My prayer is that the Spirit would form in us these powerful words to reveal what real blessing looks like and how you can experience it this summer.
